トヨタ 4.778 + CUSCO RS (pt.3)

Due to recent pandemic measures, none of my parts have been arriving at their expected ETAs. So all the work lately has been really slow 😦

Despite this, I did manage to get the entire rear assembly back together. This is where I left off with the axles – I had the oil seals removed and replaced with new ones:

New axle oil seals driven into the housing.

With everything in place, it was time to prepare the axles – all with new gaskets:

Metal gasket, paper gasket, backing plate, backing plate bolts and the axle assembly

The metal gasket goes onto the axle housing first. Ensure you apply liquid sealer on both sides (I was test fitting in the picture below).

The metal gasket goes onto the housing first.

Then install the backing plate/ shield, paper gasket (also with liquid sealer on both sides) and finally the axle and its bracket:

Ensure you carefully install the axle without hitting the deflector plates inside the pumpkin region.

So in summary:

  1. Metal gasket on housing
  2. Install backing plate
  3. Apply paper gasket onto the surface of the backing plate
  4. Insert axle with the bracket already in place
  5. Enclose the bracket and tighten the housing bolts by hand (then torque after).

After all this, the brake assembly and handbrake is reinstalled:
