Due to recent pandemic measures, none of my parts have been arriving at their expected ETAs. So all the work lately has been really slow 😦
Despite this, I did manage to get the entire rear assembly back together. This is where I left off with the axles – I had the oil seals removed and replaced with new ones:

With everything in place, it was time to prepare the axles – all with new gaskets:


The metal gasket goes onto the axle housing first. Ensure you apply liquid sealer on both sides (I was test fitting in the picture below).

Then install the backing plate/ shield, paper gasket (also with liquid sealer on both sides) and finally the axle and its bracket:

So in summary:
- Metal gasket on housing
- Install backing plate
- Apply paper gasket onto the surface of the backing plate
- Insert axle with the bracket already in place
- Enclose the bracket and tighten the housing bolts by hand (then torque after).
After all this, the brake assembly and handbrake is reinstalled:
